Fragments - A New Beginning

"There are moments that quietly change the course of things. For me, it begins with a single direct message on social media."

The Beginning

I received a request to commission a new portrait dedicated to a friend who was going through medical treatment and a profound bodily transformation.

It was a touching message that stopped me in my tracks. It moved me; I felt a deep emotional resonance, but above all, I felt honored.

I knew that this painting would not simply be a portrait. It would become a witness to a body at the edge of transformation, a way of honoring what had been while embracing what was yet to come.

The Philosophy of Imperfection

Yet this task also brought me back to a philosophy that has accompanied my work for years - Wabi-Sabi.

Wabi-Sabi teaches us to find beauty in impermanence, in vulnerability, in the marks that time leaves behind. It reminds us that nothing living is flawless, and perhaps this is exactly what makes it beautiful.

Looking at another woman through this lens changed something in me again. It reminded me why I started painting other women in the first place:

  • Never to create an idealized version of the body.

  • Never to erase scars, soften wrinkles, or chase impossible standards.

  • But to honor the stories that live within women.

Women who have loved. Women who have healed. Women who carry their stories in their scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles. Bodies that rarely appear in art and are worth looking at with compassion.

Introducing: Fragments

It is in this context that I want to give this work a new beginning: a new start called Fragments. Because sometimes we don't need the full frame; sometimes we need to focus on a place that carries meaning to honor the entire story, a place where memory, identity, emotion, or resilience quietly reside.

Though exploring body fragments has long been an established, independent concept within my artistic practice, this particular commission became the catalyst I needed. It inspired me to fully integrate the fragment series into the Celebrate Your Body project. Now, the fragments form a powerful complement to the full-body portraits that form the core of the project.

It has always been about self-acceptance. Now it is clear.

From the Studio to the Contemporary Art World

The conceptual exploration of body fragments did not remain confined to the studio. Part of this established concept series found its way into the contemporary art world when it was exhibited at the Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo (MMAC). Bringing these works into a public institutional space allowed these intimate portrayals of the female form to step into a broader dialogue.

It was a meaningful milestone, not only for me as an artist, but for every woman...

An Invitation to You

If you feel the desire to capture your own path, your uniqueness, or a meaningful chapter of your body in this way, I warmly invite you to become a part of it. If you decide to commission a portrait, I don't want to paint the version of yourself that the world expects to see.

I want to paint the woman who has lived inside your body all along.

"Because your body is not a problem to solve. It is a story worth remembering. And it would be an honor to take this new step together with you and help tell your story."
